Creators of US satire make fun of Turnbull's new slogan

CREATORS of the American political satire Veep are poking fun at Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's 'continuity and change' phrase after it was used by Australian Coalition politicians on Tuesday

"Continuity with change" is used throughout season four of Veep, when Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character, US president Selina Meyer, is campaigning for re-election .

The creators of the HBO series say the phrase was "the most meaningless election slogan we could think of" and said the slogan was  "hollow and oxymoronic".

Veep cast and crew members reacted with glee after hearing Malcolm Turnbull drew parallels with their phrase, used by bungling political operatives on their show.

"The bottom line is there is continuity and there is change," Mr Turnbull said on Tuesday, in response to claims he was campaigning on the record of former prime minister Tony Abbott.

The ABC reports that the theme of "continuity" and "change" was repeated several times by Mr Turnbull, Employment Minister Michaelia Cash and Senator Mathias Cormann - a sign the buzzwords were in the Coalition's talking points of the day.

"In [season four] of Veep we came up with the most meaningless election slogan we could think of. Now adopted by Australian PM," Veep writer Simon Blackwell tweeted.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Meyer, said she was "dumbstruck".

Fellow Veep actor Timothy Simons wrote: "A heartfelt thanks to the truly clueless US / World politicians providing us with so much free publicity.
