Cristiano Ronaldo plans retirement after huge pay day

CRISTIANO Ronaldo reportedly wants to finish his career at Real Madrid - and a contract to match his status as one of the world's top players.

The Portuguese is now the third-highest paid player in the world (not including endorsements), behind Lionel Messi and Neymar - and his camp feel that does not correctly represent his status as the world's No 1.

ABC reports that Ronaldo earns about $33 million a year at the Santiago Bernabeu but wants those figures to rise to $46m.

Given his recent trophy record compared to his big rivals, Ronaldo and agent Jorge Mendes could well have a case with Florentio Perez.

There is no doubt Ronaldo is reaching the final peak years of his career and the former Manchester United forward reckons he is due a bumper new deal.

The publication adds that this is because of the salary that Neymar earns at Paris Saint-Germain following his transfer in the summer.

ABC also claims CR7 has informed Real that his desire is to retire at the club no matter what happens.

He is also aware that considering the club's disappointing season that now is not the time to demand any changes to his current deal.

Ronaldo, who has been linked with a return to Manchester United, signed his current five-year contract - which runs until 2021 - in November 2016.
