Police escort critically ill man

SEVERAL police cars stopped traffic between Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads as they escorted a 63-year-old man to hospital yesterday.

The man was in a critical condition as he was conveyed from the Murwillumbah District Hospital to the Tweed Heads Hospital at about 1pm.

Acting Police Inspector Leanne Edmonds said the man had been involved in a collision due to a medical condition and had been taken to the Murwillumbah District Hospital.

Due to the severity of his condition, the man was then rushed to Tweed Heads with a police escort.

“Due to his critical condition, several police cars escorted the ambulance at different points,” Insp Edmonds said.

“The ambulance was escorted through traffic down Kennedy Dr and to the hospital.

“It was all done very quickly.”

Insp Edmonds said while police escorted the ambulance through traffic, there were no major delays to motorists as a result.

The man remains in the Tweed hospital in a critical condition.
