Cudgen in precarious position
CUDGEN'S hold on fourth spot in the LJ Hooker League looks precarious halfway through the last round of the home-and-away series before the four-team semi-finals commence
Going in the final round of the first grade cricket competition, Cudgen are in fourth place on averages on 38 points alongside Tintenbar-East Ballina behind Ballina Bears (55), Marist Brothers (43) and Casino Cavaliers (41).
The Hornets are playing Pottsville at Seabreeze where the match is evenly poised going into next Saturday's final day.
A magnificent spell of bowling from speedster Michael Granger helped Pottsville dismiss Cudgen for a disappointing 132 inside 45 overs.
Granger bowled with good line and length and a bit of fire and was justly rewarded with 7-43 off 17.5 overs which included seven maidens.
In reply, Pottsville is 3-72 after losing their third wicket at the end of the day's play to put a bit of heart back into the visitors.
So the stage is certainly set for an exciting finish to the match.
Cudgen probably do need to win as Tintenbar-East Ballina is certainly in the box seat in their game against Alstonville at Hill Park.
Tintenbar knocked up an impressive 9-250 and have Alstonville 1-32 in their run chase.
In the game at Bilambil between Terranora Lakes and Lismore Workers, Terranora took the honours on day one by knocking up 9 dec-232 and having their visitors 1-29 in their run chase.
Terranora was 6-85 at one stage but solid digs down the lower order from Michael Gardner (77), Scott Finlayson (36) and Josh Hoare (25) ensured they knocked up an impressive total.
