Cudgen need wins to progress

CUDGEN Leagues needs to win both remaining fixtures in the LJ Hooker League first grade cricket competition to make a 'bird' of forcing their way into the four-team semi-finals.

Going into this penultimate round 8 of the home-and-away series, Cudgen lie in equal fourth place on 31 points with Tintenbar-East Ballina behind leaders, Ballina Bears (48), Marist Brothers (42) and Casino Cavaliers (34).

Those teams have opened up bit of a gap on the chasers Alstonville and Byron Bay who are locked on 25 points and facing an uphill battle to get into the four.

The Bears and Brothers look to have end-of-season possies sewn up leaving Casino, Cudgen and Tintenbar to fight it out for the final two berths.

Cudgen get a real opportunity to enhance their prospects this afternoon when they host Byron Bay in a 40-overs per side clash at Reg Dalton Oval.

Day one of the two-day fixtures across the competition was washed out last week so LJ Hooker League officials decided to complete the round with one-day matches.

In the final round 9 of the season, Cudgen tackle second-last placed Pottsville at Seabreeze Oval - it will be a two-day fixture played on March 10-17.
