Currumbin sport gets $480k boost
ALMOST half a million dollars has been injected into Currumbin state electorate sport.
The Currumbin District Horse Club and Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club have received $250,109 and $229,338 in Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Program funding respectively.
Surf club president Jim Purdon said the funding would upgrade the club's toilets.
"I'm one of the original members of the club and, since it was first built in 1966 the toilets are still the same - they're real lousy and they need upgrading," Mr Purdon said.
He said he would like to thank McPherson MP Karen Andrews, Currumbin MP Jann Stuckey and Division 14 councillor Chris Robbins as "they all play a part and what they're doing for local sport is phenomenal".
"This is more State Government funding than we've ever received and we're very lucky - I don't think the public is aware of the money the government and other bodies provide for sport."
Horse club president Lorraine Wienand said the money would fund a multi-purpose arena.
"It'll be an odd shape but we're utilising the space we've got for show jump, vault and walking events and a temporary arena for dressage," Ms Wienand said.
She thanked Cr Robbins for her past financial support. Ms Stuckey said the clubs deserved funding to improve their services. "Congratulations to both clubs for their efforts and I wish them all the best in delivering their projects."
