Curtis' story inspires sister

FOR the second year, Palm Beach businesses will get behind a good cause for the Curtis Finn Touch Tournament.

Curtis Finn took his own life two years ago and his sister Tamra Forde will pull the community together again on Saturday to raise money and awareness for the youth suicide organisation Inspire Australia.

“If you've been through something like this, it makes you want to do something about it and make a difference,” she said.

“It helps that we are making a legacy for him, bringing the community together in Curtis' name and helping to raise awareness of this issue in our local community to make a difference.”

Mrs Forde said although fundraising was important, her true goal was to shine a light on a dark issue.

“It's something that has been swept under the rug for some time now,” she said. “Statistics have revealed that suicide is one of the highest fatality causes in young Australians so it's definitely something we believe can't be ignored any longer.”

Jetts Fitness Palm Beach, where Mr Finn was a member, has come on board as the event's main sponsor.

“Curtis's death was a massive shock to everyone, but we're all keen to help turn this tragedy into a way to better communicate with local kids on this tough issue,” owner Chris Evans said.

Come down to Bilambil Sports Fields from 9am for a raffle, barbecue, stalls and live entertainment after the competition.
