Cycle for charity in Gran Fondo

CYCLING enthusiasts of all abilities are invited to prepare themselves for the action-packed Gran Fondo Social Rides in the Tweed Valley on Sunday, May 6.

The Gran Fondo event is a fun way to explore the magnificent Tweed Valley.

Fundraising from the event will be donated to the Heart Kids Queensland, to raise awareness and provide treatments for children affected by Childhood Heart Disease, which claims six children born everyday in the country and four who die every week from its consequences.

Event organiser Sebastian Krantz said Gran Fondo was a great way to promote charity and every year they support various charity organisations.

This year they were trying to raise $50,000 in donations for Kids Heart Queensland.

"I am thrilled to have Heart Kids as our charity for the Gran Fondo Social Rides," he said.

"The more participants that enter, the greater the financial contribution to Heart Kids.

"This is what the event is about - making every participant feel their personal pain during the ride," Mr Krantz said.

Anyone with a bike can take part in the Piccolo Fondo 57km for $49, Fondo 136km for $79 or Gran Fondo 180km for $99 cycling courses, which would take the riders past the Tweed Coast beaches, over the Buringbar Mountain Range and through the winding valleys of northern NSW.

The Gran Fondo Social Rides are part of the epic Velo Battle on the Border Cycling Festival which is open to participants between the age of 10 to 70, where each participant would be given a competitors shirt, be provided with free BBQ, aid stations and support vehicles along the course.
