Cyclist critical after truck hit

RACQ CareFlight is rushing a man in a critical condition from Tweed Hospital to Brisbane after he was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle.

According to a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman, paramedics were called to Fraser Dr, Banora Point, about 7.24am.

Paramedics treated a 34-year-old Tugun man for back and pelvic injuries after he was thrown from a bike.

The ambulance took the rider to Tweed Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

About 11am, RACQ CareFlight reported that it was flying the man to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

RACQ CareFlight air crewman Ben Trollope said the man suffered some serious injuries in the incident.

"The man sustained a badly fractured pelvis and had some internal bleeding," he said.

"He also had a major blood transfusion at the hospital," Mr Trollope said.

"The truck struck the man and he was thrown around 8m away from the truck but it's fortunate that he didn't go toward the truck or underneath."

"We are preparing to airlift him to a hospital in Brisbane for further treatment for his injuries."

He was in a critical condition an hour into the transfer.
