'Daggy' Dami Im crowned 2013 X Factor winner
BRISBANE'S Dami Im has been crowned the 2013 X Factor winner.
Tonight's grand final decider saw the 24-year-old beat runner-up Taylor Henderson on Seven's popular reality singing show.
"I don't believe that I've won, this is crazy," Im said.
"I want to win this for people like me who are dags and inspire them to dream big."
The South Korean-born singer wowed judges and viewers with her rendition of Purple Rain and was the bookies' favourite going into the winner's announcement.
On social media it was the "Dami Army" versus the "Taylor Train" after 14-year-old Jai Waetford was eliminated from the competition with the lowest percentage of the public vote.
But viewers also used Twitter to complain about the length of tonight's show, which went more than 20 minutes over its already lengthy two-hour time slot.
Helping to pad out the grand final decider were performances by Fall Out Boy, former judge Guy Sebastian and US chart-topper Katy Perry.
Speaking to APN in the lead-up to the grand final, Im said she planned on writing and recording "uplifting" original music.
"I want to write my own songs and hopefully make songs that really uplift people and help people be positive," she said.
"When I sang Bridge Over Troubled Water I felt like that was my type of message. It's such a great feeling when I sing - I feel like it can help people feel better. People are out there having tough challenges in their lives and at least I can use my voice to help them in some kind of way."
