Dam dwellers placed on alert
CONDITIONS at Clarrie Hall Dam have reached white alert with residents downstream advised to prepare for evacuation if the level continues to rise.
Tweed Shire Council and the SES are monitoring the situation closely however there is no immediate threat.
The water level would have to rise another 3.2m across the dam before the dam would breach, however residents downstream of the dam along Tweed River from Doon Doon Ck, Uki and down to Byangum Bridge have been asked to prepare their personal belongings and charge mobile phones.
A white alert is used during heavy rainfall when water rises 2m over the spillway.
The alert is upgraded to amber if the level continues to rise up to 3.5m over the spillway and then to red if the dam is going to breach when forced evacuation of the downstream population would begin.
