KILLER is Dan Sultan's latest album set to be released on July 28, just after he rocks out at Splendour in the Grass show at Byron Parklands.

The ARIA winning rocker made the announcement yesterday about his upcoming fourth album, which is described as the songwriter stepping up as a singer songwriter with a powerful and emotive suite of tunes.

"It's been a long process to make this album, looking back on it all," Sultan says.

"I've spent a long time working on this record. With the writing, it was all about evolving.

"I wasn't even necessarily thinking about the album as such, I was just writing for the sake of writing, and the album made itself known over time."

Recorded with producer and long-time collaborator Jan Skubiszewski in Melbourne, Killer is a sophisticated compilation of music that weighs up life's ups and downs with more reflective lyrics than previous records.

The album introduces synthesisers and drum machines to lift powerful rhythms, and heightens emotions with gospel backing vocals that sound bigger than cathedral choirs.

Killer will be released on Friday July 28. It's available for pre-order now.

Killer comes after the Melbourne-based artist wrapped up a sold-out solo tour and unveiled new single Hold It Together two weeks ago.

Dan will also return to the road for an extensive run of dates in support of the release throughout September, this time backed by a full band.

He will front North Coast Fans at The Northern on Thursday, September 21.

Tickets on sale on Wednesday, June 7.
