Dangerfield cleared over kneeing incident

AFL: Patrick Dangerfield remains on track to win this year’s Brownlow Medal after he was cleared by the Match Review Panel of kneeing St Kilda’s Jarryn Geary.

The Cat had collected the Saint in the head during their clash on Saturday night, but the MRP deemed it was accidental as he attempted to get back on his feet after a scuffle.

During his eight-year career at the top level, Dangerfield has only ever been charged for negligent umpire contact in 2012.

Richmond’s Jacob Townsend was also cleared of striking Brisbane’s Mitch Robinson as he was “reaching for the ball”. The Lion had been left concussed.

North Melbourne defender Michael Firrito was offered a $1000 fine for striking Adelaide’s Mitch McGovern.

Hawthorn wingman Brad Hill, meanwhile, has been fined $1000 but avoided any conviction over an incident at a Melbourne nightclub in February.

It came a week after the three-time premiership player was fined $500 for driving without a licence last year.
