Daryl’s back for New Year’s Eve
JUST months after touring with Mental as Anything, Daryl Braithwaite will be back in Tweed Heads for New Year's Eve.
While he's never performed at Twin Towns for their big New Year's Eve show before, Braithwaite said he was looking forward to the experience.
"I've played there quite a lot of times over the years," Braithwaite said.
"I look forward to it."
When he was asked to do the show a number of months ago, Braithwaite said he had a few trepidations about the New Year's Eve show.
"New Year's Eve is so different," he said.
"It's really sometimes a little bit tricky to play.
"You expect a lot from New Year's Eve, as a performer and as a band.
"It can sometimes be an anti-climax."
Still, Braithwaite was confident New Year's Eve in Tweed Heads would be an experience he wouldn't regret.
"I think that one at Twin Towns will be a different kind of experience," he said.
Braithwaite said after playing a string of shows in Sydney at the weekend, he would be having a bit of a break over Christmas.
"We have some time off until New Year's Eve," he said.
After a busy year with too many gigs to count, Braithwaite said it was a well-earned break.
"Christmas time is so busy ... it's good to have a little breather," he said.
After New Year's, he said it would be flat-out until March, when he will embark on the cruise to Gallipoli for the 100th anniversary ceremony.
"I was first approached about it maybe four or five years ago now," he said.
"We signed up for it back then, thinking it might never eventuate.
"I think going to Gallipoli for the 100th anniversary will be something I really will appreciate and be able to reflect on.
"It will be nice to be a part of it."
Braithwaite said he was looking forward to hearing plenty of stories on the five-week cruise, during which he'd be performing a handful of times.
After that, it's most likely back on the road for Braithwaite and his band, who seem to be perpetually touring.
"We're basically always touring," he said. "I guess we like working."
This year, Braithwaite said had been especially busy. "It's just a continuous tour, but it's still a lot of fun to be doing it after 45 years," he said.
Over New Year's at least, Braithwaite is looking forward to hitting the surf around Tweed.
"Twin Towns is good because most of us love the ocean up there," he said.
