David Helfgott’s tribute to Margaret Olley sold out
DAVID Helfgott, legendary pianist and subject of the renowned film Shine, is set to perform classical pieces in a sold out tribute to Margaret Olley.
Mr Helfgott is travelling up from Coffs Harbour for the occasion, and he will be playing to a packed crowd at the Tweed River Regional Art Gallery.
Gallery director Susi Muddiman said ticket sales were very popular with people from afar.
"It was first in best dressed, we have people coming from north and south, and travelling far distances to come and watch Mr Helfgott perform," Ms Muddiman said.
"We could have filled another concert. There will be 90 people in total," she said.
Mr Helfgott will be performing a selection of romantic classics from Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven and Rachmaninov.
The tribute was arranged after a meeting at a Margaret Olley exhibition in Sydney last year.
"I met Mr Helfgott's promoter at the exhibition and we organised the musical tribute".
