David's glimpse into our history

DAVID Rae launched his book Glimpses At The Past: Memories of the Tweed Coast and Hinterland on Saturday in an event that was hailed as the biggest gathering of Tweed’s pioneering families.

The event was held at the Pottsville Beach Community Hall and was a triumphant celebration after three years of research by the 82-year-old Cabarita-based author.

“It was a great event.

“There was standing room only,” Mr Rae said.

“People with a connection to Tweed travelled from many places, including Toowoomba and Brisbane.”

Mr Rae said the books were snatched up by eager residents.

“Once the book was launched, copies went on sale. One book was raffled and the proceeds went to the Cabarita Beach and Pottsville Lions Club,” Mr Rae said.

“One dollar from the sale of each book will also go to the Lions club.”

Mr Rae said he was pleased with the large number of people who attended the event, and support the book.

“Everybody was gobsmacked by the number of people who were there – it was very heart-warming,” Mr Rae said.

Copies of Glimpses At The Past: Memories of the Tweed Coast and Hinterland that were not sold at the launch can be purchased at the Cabarita Beach Sports Club and Pottsville Bowling Club.
