One lane of Dawson Hwy re-opens after fuel tanker crash

UPDATE 12.20PM: The Dawson Highway between Bauhinia and Rolleston is now open to single lane traffic, with traffic controllers in place to direct drivers.

Earlier: The Dawson Highway expected to be closed for most of the day after a fuel tanker rollover 50km east of Rolleston early on Monday morning.

The Department of Main Roads has issued an advisement saying the highway between Bauhinia and Rolleston is closed to all vehicles due to a truck rollover.

"An exclusion zone is in place," the department's notice stated. "The Queensland Police Service expects this road to be closed all day."

The tanker was leaking a small amount of fuel. It was carrying 3000 litres of aviation fuel and 1000 litres of diesel.

The 53-year-old male driver of the tanker was extracted from the wreckage by emergency services and taken to Rockhampton by RACQ Capricorn Rescue in a stable condition.

He had a suspected broken arm and spinal injury.

Earlier, the CQ Regional Road Report Facebook page stated the road would likely be closed for most of the day.

The status said the accident was at Expedition Range about a 100km west of Moura.

"Rescue 300 will be landing on Dawson Highway to airlift truck driver. Highway will remain closed most of the day Exclusion zone is in place."
