Dead man washed up on beach heavily tattooed

POLICE hope tattoos on the body of a man washed up on South Stradbroke Island will help identifiy him.

It is believed a council worker discovered the man's body north of the Gold Coast Seaway near Currigee around 7.30 Sunday morning.

A cause of death has yet to be established, but there are reports the body may have been in the water for several days.

Police and forensic officers will also use fingerprints, DNA and the missing persons' register to try to identify the heavily tattooed man.

A police spokeswoman said there was no suggestion yet that the man's death was linked to criminal motorcycle gangs.
