“Dee day” spells disaster on MKR

MKR's 'Dee day' did not disappoint.

There were plenty of fireworks on tonight's show as Sydney newlyweds Tim and Dee struggled to manage their time.

The wheels began to come off during their shopping trip complicated by a confusing course-by-course ingredients list.

Despite spending four hours sourcing their ingredients for their Spanish-themed menu, they forgot the crucial spice cumin for their lentil soup entrée.

"They say you eat with your eyes and when your dish arrived I was like wow, this is my sort of food; hearty, peasant-style food," judge Colin Fassnidge said.

"And then I tasted it and you under cooked it. Your lentils were underdone; your stock had this overpowering raw onion flavour.

"I want Spanish; what I got was not very good."

The newlyweds tried to regroup but things went downhill when Tim burnt the breadcrumbs they planned to make from their own handmade bread.

The flustered couple again rushed to serve their main course without tasting all of their components.

"This is a dish I'm sure you've cooked many times," Fassnidge said.

"I don't know where I am tonight; I could be anywhere.

"Your meatballs are undercooked. I can see you cooked them in the pan; meatballs should be swimming in sauce."

There was a glimmer of hope with the dessert as their flans came out of the ramekins easily.

"I know a crème caramel; I've made a few in my life," guest judge Rachel Khoo said.

"I like that you kept it simple. The vanilla flavour was delicious, however I think you could have gone farther with that caramel."

But the third course wasn't enough to save Tim and Dee from elimination.

Khoo also departed before the other 10 teams returned for the details of the next round.

Hosts Manu Feildel and Pete Evans announced the two lowest scoring teams from all three groups will compete in a "redemption" instant restaurant round, at the end of which two teams will be eliminated.

Tim and Dee's menu

Entrée: Lentejas (Spanish lentil soup with chorizo)

Main: Ablondigas con Patatas Bravas (Spanish meatballs with potatoes and spicy tomato sauce)

Dessert: Flan de Huevo (Spanish crème caramel)

Score: 32
