Deirdre’s flowing locks are among top 25 best in Australia

DEIRDRE Jones's secret to being among the top 25 Australians with the most beautiful hair is probably no secret at all.

The Rockhampton woman believes the key element to having luscious hair is to wash with leave-in conditioner, but not every day.

That and a bit of tender, loving, care.

Deirdre, a Big W employee, was selected as a finalist in the Schwarzkopf Australia's Most Beautiful Hair Competition, with her lower-back-long, brunette waves.

Although she styles it often, her hair is naturally wavy.

The competition was put out on Facebook and online users were simply required to get as many votes, on their photo, as they could from the public.

Deirdre received about 2000 Facebook likes for her photo, on the Schwarzkopf Australia Facebook page.

She placed 13th in the preliminary round.

If she takes out the nationwide competition she will win two economy return flights from Brisbane to Sydney, two nights twin share at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney and two spa treatments.

The coveted prize is a shot at posing for two magazines.

"I couldn't have done this without the support of my family and friends ... thank you all so much," she said.

She heads to Brisbane on Sunday for a preliminary final round.

Deirdre's hair tips

  • Use a heat protectant product before styling
  • Be as natural as you can with your hair to receive the best results
  • Wash every two to three days with leave-in conditioner
