Devastated Pearson out of Olympics

SALLY Pearson will not defend her Olympic title after tearing her hamstring while training on the Gold Coast.

Pearson, whose build-up to the Rio Games had been riddled with injury worries, including a broken wrist and achilles tendon problem, picked up the latest injury during a sprint session on the weekend.

The reigning 100m hurdles Olympic champion had struggled in her three races in Europe and had returned home to try to improve her fitness and form.

Pearson, the Australian team captain, is devastated to miss out on her third Olympic Games.

She is set for a rest but wants to be part of the Commonwealth Games in 2018, which is taking place in her home city, the Gold Coast.
