Diamond may still make the Olympics

DUAL Olympic gold medallist Michael Diamond hopes to have criminal charges dealt with as soon as possible so he has a chance to be selected for the Rio Olympics.

The shooter pleaded not guilty to firearms and drink-driving charges in a NSW court yesterday.

He asked the court to expedite his hearing to beat the July 4 Olympic selection cut-off date.

Magistrate Caleb Franklin adjourned the matter to Friday so lawyers and police could determine how long the hearing would take.

"If it is the situation where there is court time available, because the matter is relatively short I'm likely to be persuaded," Mr Franklin said.

But the magistrate warned if the matter was likely to take some time, forcing him to juggle part-heard matters around, he would take some convincing.

The 44-year-old was charged following an argument involving his brother at Nelson Bay on May 21.
