Dildo thief faces awkward times

WHEN Christopher David Jenkins, 26, of Grafton is asked by his cellmate what he's serving time for, a truthful answer may get a response: "You stole what?"

A police charge sheet presented to Grafton Local Court on Monday said Jenkins stole from a car "certain property of the value $300, to wit, dildo, the property of (name withheld)".

Police were called to Tallowood Dr, South Grafton at about 2am on May 24 to reports of four to five people trying to access a car on or near a property.

When they arrived, police spotted people running north towards Iron Bark Cl and following a short search found four people including Jenkins and three co-accused.

Police told the court one of the co-accused was holding a clear sexual toy concealed in a box and police then noticed a number of lights on in several cars along Tallowood Cl.

Jenkins was sentenced to six months in jail from June 14 to December 13 for these thefts but he will serve at least a further three months for a car theft.

He stole a white Ford Falcon from a Mary St, Grafton address at about 4.30am on June 6 and within minutes, police received reports of a car driving erratically in Wharf St. Police arrived near the scene of the damaged car and spotted four males "well-known to police" in Alexander Bell Park.

Police said a man was yelling at the group: "you nearly f---ing killed us by driving like that".

Police asked Jenkins where he was staying and he replied with a room number of a Grafton hotel.

He denied being involved with the theft until police told him they'd found his room key in the damaged car.

"Oh yeah, I lost them," he told police.

Magistrate David Heilpern sentenced Jenkins to 12 months' imprisonment for the car theft with a non-parole period of nine months (ending on March 13, 2013).

Grafton Court staff were unable to supply details of Jenkins co-accused in either of these matters.

Jenkins has a lengthy criminal record including armed robbery, car theft and larceny.

  • The sex aid's owner explained she worked for an online sex toy company and was due to post the product out the next day.
  • Other property stolen on the night included a Corrective Services ID card and a laptop computer.
