Fraser Island dingo destroyed for lunging at girl, 11

A MALE dingo has been destroyed on Fraser Island after it lunged at an 11-year-old girl.

The incident happened while the girl was swimming at popular tourist spot Eli Creek.

The child's mother managed to scare the dingo away and the child was uninjured.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Park and Wildlife service said the dingo has been involved in several aggressive incidents and had been humanely destroyed.

The other incidents included interaction with two teenage girls on December 27, with the dingo being chased off with a stick and another incident on New year's Day when the dingo threatened a woman, who was rescued by a ranger and a passer-by.

The dingo's death follows two other incidents involving the animals in October and August.

In October, two woman were attacked by dingoes while jogging at Yidney Rocks and a man was attack at Happy Valley in August.
