Discussion on zero emissions plan

A FREE talk on how Australia can become emission-free by 2020 will be held in Murwillumbah tomorrow night.

Tweed Climate Action Now (CAN) and the Caldera Environment Centre have organised a presentation by director of Beyond Zero Emissions Mark Ogge.

Tweed CAN member Dr Paul Taylor encouraged residents to attend the meeting.

“No matter where you stand on the environmental debate, it's obvious that some day in the future we will have to switch to 100% renewable energy, as fossil fuels run out or become too expensive,” Dr Taylor said.

“Come and hear how we can do it sooner rather than later, and how we can be world leaders rather than laggards.”

Beyond Zero Emissions, a not-for-profit organisation, partnered with the Uni- versity of Melbourne Energy Research Institute to create the plan.

Their award-winning plan has received endorsement from across the political spectrum. Every- one from the Greens to the Liberals has heaped glowing praise on it, with Malcolm Turnbull referring to it as a “fantastic piece of work”.

The presentation will begin at 6.30pm DST tomorrow at the Imperial Hotel in Murwillumbah.
