Divorce to become more expensive than ever

GETTING a divorce is going to become a lot more expensive - in more ways than one.

New changes will see numerous Family Court fees will rise when they come into effect next month.

Divorce applications will increase from $845 to $1195 and the cost of issuing a subpoena will more than double to $120.

The government expects to raise about $90 million from the fee increases.

Some divorce lawyers across the country have seized the opportunity, urging unhappy couples to file for divorce before June 30 to save before the changes take effect.

Labor legal affairs parliamentary secretary Graham Perrett told The Australian the fee increases were outrageous and they will be felt hardest by some of the most vulnerable in our society during their darkest hours.
