Donation sweeps bowls club away

ROBINA Bowls Club’s clean floors are a symbol of community spirit.

The Good Guys Robina donated a vacuum cleaner to the club after two members offered to take over cleaning of the club-house from a cleaning contractor.

Club assistant to the chairman Nicole Davey said the members’ generous decision to volunteer meant contracting services were no longer required but cleaning equipment was.

“The vacuum cleaner is top quality and has a backpack, which has been excellent as our club-house is quite large and fully carpeted,” Ms Davey said.

“Our members are doing an outstanding job while saving the club much needed funds.”

She said many of the club’s members were regular shoppers at the Good Guys and one of them suggested asking for assistance.

“It’s well known that the Good Guys Robina are very active in supporting non-profit clubs and groups in their local area, so we gave them a call,” she said.

“Gavin Cowan and his team, and in particular Mark Anderson, were incredibly helpful and we had the vacuum cleaner within a week. We have a great relationship with the Good Guys Robina.” Store owner Gavin Cowan said the bowls club approached them for help.

“We’re not really regular sponsors of the club but they’re local to our business so we help out where we can,” Mr Cowan said.

Ms Davey said the club relies on support from the local community.

“We’re always keen to talk to anyone interested in volunteering opportunities and/or sponsorship in any form,” she said.
