Dott lives La Dolce Vita

FORMER Coast singer-songwriter Dott Reed is taking Italy by storm and has the rest of the world in her sights.

The 23-year-old, who now calls London home, is being labelled an "unconventional pop star" whose modern take on honky-tonk-inspired music sounds like it's coming straight out of a gramophone.

One of Dott's songs, Bad Luck, was chosen to be on an Italian Nissan commercial and her second single released last month is now being played on more than 80% of Italian radio stations.

Her most recent single, Lipstick, is also gaining momentum and Dott said there were lots more where they came from.

Although a long way from home the songstress is still a Coast girl at heart.

"Nothing compares to Australian beaches - they are such a gift," she said.

"Europe is glamorous and beautiful, but the beach is one thing I miss."

When Dott lived on the Coast she attended Caloundra Christian College and Sunshine Coast Christian College.

Her career path changed when she left the Coast in search of film opportunities in Sydney and met one of Australia's leading contemporary Christian musicians, Steve Grace, whose son was one of her best friends.

She told him she was obsessed with poetry and was one day playing piano when Grace suggested she "try to see if you can make a song".

"I had to get (Grace) to close his eyes and turn around, so I could sing the song," she said.

But the musician has no problems commanding the stage or camera now.

"I have done shows all around London," she said.

Last year Dott was signed by independent record label Wasabi.
