Double action with local derbies

FANS of the greatest game of all will have a surfeit of top-line rugby league this weekend with two local A grade derbies highlighting an action-packed weekend.

In the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League, Bilambil Jets and Tweed Raiders clash this afternoon at Piggabeen Sports Complex while tomorrow at Ned Byrne Field, Cudgen hosts Tweed Raiders.

Both games will be torrid affairs and the centre of the rucks will be no place for the faint-hearted as all four outfits boast rough ‘n' tough forward packs.

The A grade fixture at Piggabeen is the curtain-raiser to an Intrust Cup game between the unbeaten Tweed Heads Seagulls and Central Comets.

At one stage yesterday it looked likely that the games at Piggabeen would be called off but a late decision was made to postpone the two earlier games, the Intrust under-19s and Bycroft Cup reserves, so as not to damage the ground prior to the two main events on the program.
