Double dux awarded to students

TWO of Murwillumbah's top Year 12 students have jointly taken out the award of dux of Mt St Patrick college for 2012 - the first time it has thought the honour has ever been shared at the school.

The double dux award was announced after the school calculated the non-HSC scores in the subjects year 12 students had studied and came up with two sharing the same result.

The joint duxes are Claire Chauvier and Georgina Harbottle who learnt of their award at last week's school formal at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre.

Georgina has since taken a holiday with her family back to their Irish homeland before planning to continue here studies in law at Hobart University.

Claire plans to go to the University of Queensland to study chemical engineering.

Principal Tony Daly said it was most unusual for two students to share the award.

"It is very rare," Mr Daly said.

"Usually there's one person that stands out. This year there were two.

"It hasn't happened before to my knowledge."
