Double Elvis delight

CHUCK on your blue suede shoes because Elvis is in the building.

Two of Australia's leading Elvis tribute artists, Mark Anthony and Scott Baker, will join forces with rock and roll stars Lonnie Lee and Digger Revell at Seagulls on Saturday.

Elvis Evolution takes the audience on a journey through the life of Elvis Presley, from hillbilly to movie star, with a backdrop of photos and album covers adding a stirring touch of nostalgia to the performance.

Mr Anthony and Mr Baker, recognised as two of the top 10 Elvis artists in the world, are well-known to Wintersun fans after cementing their dominance at the 2007 and 2008 Wintersun Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist World Championships, taking out first and second place respectively.

They both share uncanny similarities in looks, moves and mannerisms to 'The King'.

“The combination of his vocal ability, good looks and sex appeal made Elvis one of only a handful of artists who have ever truly deserved the tag of idol,” said Mr Anthony, who has been a fan since he was five.

“It's a measure of his greatness that even after his death over thirty years ago, he's still one of the most adulated performers of our times.”

Mr Baker said it has been the longevity of Elvis' popularity and the dedication of his fans to keeping his music alive that has given performers such as himself and Mark a platform to showcase their own vocal abilities.

“Presley was the first artist to successfully blend black and white musical influences, with mass appeal,” Mr Baker said.

After winning the title of Grand Champion Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist for the South Pacific last year, Mr Anthony performed at the World Championships in Memphis Tennessee, where he was ranked in the world's top 10.

Elvis Evolution blends two eras of Elvis' music, with each artist playing his own specialty songs.
