Down pour causes traffic chaos

EXTRA swift-water rescue specialists were called in last night as emergency services scrambled to deal with flash flooding in Toowoomba.

Traffic was diverted around a number of flooded streets and roads after heavy rain late in the afternoon.

Vehicles became trapped in floodwater at the intersection of West St and Drayton Rd at 6.15pm and the intersection of South and Mackenzie at 6.30pm.

A Rangeville resident recorded 63mm of rain last night.

The Bureau of Meteorology gauge at Toowoomba Airport recorded 6mm of rain between 6pm and 9pm yesterday.

More storms are predicted this afternoon.
