Draws for Arsenal and Chelsea
ARSENAL was held to a 0-0 draw by Marseille in the Champions League today, meaning the Gunners will have to wait at least another round to secure advancement from Group F.
Arsenal could have secured qualification with a victory at Emirates Stadium, with two group matches remaining.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger opted to rest Robin van Persie after his hat trick in a 5-3 win against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, but the Dutch striker came on as a substitute with just under 30 minutes to go for the ineffective Park Ju-young.
Van Persie had a chance to score in the 77th minute when a pass from Tomas Rosicky split open Marseille's defense, but the Netherlands striker's attempted chip was collected by goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
Arsenal leads the group with eight points and Marseille is in second with seven points.
Fellow London side Chelsea gave up a 1-0 halftime lead to draw 1-1 with Belgian side Genk.
Elsewhere Lionel Messi's hat trick helped Barcelona stroll into the knockout phase with a 4-0 rout of Viktoria Plzen and AC Milan also qualified early from Group H with a 1-1 draw at BATE Borisov.
Messi scored his 200th Barcelona goal from the penalty spot, netted again for the champions on the stroke of halftime after completing a one-two with Adriano and rounded off the victory in stoppage time following Cesc Fabregas' header.
Second-place Milan qualified despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal being canceled out by Renan Bressan's penalty kick for Plzen.
