Driver clocked doing 171kmh in a 110kmh zone
A LEAD-FOOT driver was clocked travelling at 171kmh on the Pacific Hwy, Cudgera Creek on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old man was stopped about 1.15am.
He was issued a fine and his licence was instantly suspended.
Wednesday, day 13 of Operation Safe Arrival, police conducted 28,825 roadside breath tests and charged nine motorists with drink-driving.
Officers further booked 688 speeding drivers and issued 907 infringement notices for other traffic offences.
Superintendent Bob Ryan from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command is again urging motorists travelling to and from their holiday destinations to take extra care.
"Christmas and New Year's have come and gone but this is still a busy time on our roads, especially our major thoroughfares, as holidaymakers travel to and from popular tourist spots," Superintendent Ryan said.
"Police remain out in force on our roads targeting motorists who are doing the wrong thing and putting innocent road users at risk," he said.
"We have so far charged 856 drink-drivers, nabbed 10,419 speeding motorists and handed out 14,613 fines for other traffic offences during the operation."
