Driver injured in crash on highway

A BRAZILLIAN tourist was taken to Tweed Hospital after the campervan she was driving crashed on the Pacific Hwy yesterday about 2.45pm DST.

The woman and another female passenger, believed to be in their 20s, were travelling north when the vehicle crashed about 2km south of the Chinderah tunnel.

Tweed District Rescue Squad president Jamie Stoddart said it appeared the van went off into the median strip, rolled on its side for 50m and came to rest on the side wire.

Tweed Police Inspector Greg Carey said the cause of the crash was not yet known.

“The driver was not in a serious condition when she was taken to hospital,” Insp Carey said.
