Driver who rolled car three times over limit

A MAN who rolled his car while almost three times the blood alcohol limit called himself 'stupid' at the Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday.

Joshua Andrew John Daley was driving north on Tweed Valley Way at Chinderah between 4.45am and 5.10am on September 26 last year when he crashed while taking a bend in the road. According to police the 23-year-old escaped with a bump on his head when his car left the road, rolled a number of times and stopped on its roof.

Daley crawled out a smashed window and, when police arrived at the crash site, was found walking away from the car. He admitted he was still drunk from his big night in Murwillumbah only hours before.

Daley had .140 per cent blood alcohol concentration when his breath was analysed at the Tweed Heads Police Station.

At court yesterday, Daley said his actions had been stupid and shocking and he would “never do it again”.

Magistrate Nicholas Reimer said it had been a very serious and substantial accident.

He disqualified the Burleigh Waters man from driving for 12 months and fined him $1000, plus $73 court costs.
