Drug bust at Gold Coast airport

A 41-YEAR-old Brunei woman risks 25 years in jail after being caught allegedly importing 470 grams of drugs through Gold Coast Airport last week.

Customs and Border Protection officers stopped the woman when she arrived on a flight from Malaysia on Tuesday December 15.

It will be alleged in court the woman passed 21 pellets internally at approximately 170 grams of a substance believed to be heroin.

A further 300 grams was located concealed in her clothing on her person.

She was charged on Monday.

Further forensic testing will be undertaken to confirm the drug, its weight and purity.

The woman was charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug and possessing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.

The maximum penalty for these offences is 25 years imprisonment and/or a $550,000 fine.
