Dungay Creek gets the all-clear

TWEED Shire Council has given the all-clear on the Dungay Creek after Monday’s incident involving a liquid waste truck.

The Solo Resource Recovery truck was driving over a private bridge in Dungay when it collapsed, tipping the vehicle into the creek.

Council officers on Monday afternoon believed the incident may have caused a minor effluent spill in the creek, but yesterday said no liquid waste or vehicular fluids had escaped.

“An inspection of the vehicle after it was removed did not reveal any damage that may have resulted in the escape of liquid waste or any vehicular fluids,” a council statement said.

“Council’s previous advice on restrictions on the use of the creek for residents below the property has been lifted.”

The vehicle, which was carrying about 2400 litres of liquid waste, was removed late Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson from Solo Resource Recovery declined to comment.
