Educator wants kids to be read 1000 books before age 5
TOOWOOMBA woman Kate Mason dreams of a world where all children have 1000 books read to them by the time they are five.
The Kath Dickson Education Care Centre director wants the community to help encourage a generation of lifelong learners who are inquisitive, articulate and ready for school.
The passionate early childhood educator is calling for donations of books to create a family library.
She's already created an inviting and homely space for the library and now hopes children will be able to borrow a variety of books.
"We wanted to create an environment where parents can sit down and bond with their children - a cosy space with a lounge, where families can read and interact," she said.
"We are looking for books right across the board."
Make a donation at the centre on Gladstone St from Monday to Friday 7am-6pm.
