Eight car pile up on Bruce Highway north of Gin Gin

A 23-YEAR-old Sunshine Coast man has been airlifted to hospital after an eight car smash on the Bruce Highway 30 kilometres north of Gin Gin this afternoon.

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter flew to the scene airlifting the 23 year old man with spinal injuries.

The man was the driver of the rear car in a line of seven vehicles waiting at road works in the north bound lane when an eighth vehicle ploughed into the back of the stationary line.

The impact concerted the sedan driven by the 23-year-old Sunshine Coast man and triggered a knock on effect, impacting the other six vehicles, including a caravan under tow.

The man suffered spinal injuries and was treated at the scene before being airlifted by the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter to the Bundaberg Base Hospital.  He was in a stable condition.

The Hyundai sedan he was driving had just been purchased by his Mother and he had been en route to deliver the vehicle.

The driver of the 4WD which hit the line of waiting cars was assisting police with their enquiries into the crash.
