Elderly woman injured in crash

AN 85-year-old woman was taken to the Tweed Hospital after rolling her car onto its side at Banora Point yesterday.

Tweed Police Inspector Darren Steel said the Banora Point woman was treated for minor leg lacerations and discharged.

About 9.15am the woman was driving north on Fraser Drive when the crash occurred about 650m south of Leisure Drive.

“She appears to have lost control of the vehicle as she rounded a right-hand corner, causing her to cross to the wrong side of the roadway and collide with an embankment,” Insp Steel said. “This caused the vehicle, a Suzuki Swift, to flip onto its side.”

The woman was helped out of her car by bystanders and treated on scene by paramedics. Tweed Heads firefighters attended and contained a small oil spill.
