The 87-year-old victim - who uses a walker - was waiting for a train at Aspendale Railway Station on September 22 about 11.25am when an unknown man called out to her.

He asked if she wanted money and she declined. The man then kissed the woman and attacked her. She broke free and boarded the train.

It's believed the offender boarded a Frankston-bound train and disembarked at Carrum Railway Station just before noon.

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released an image of a man they believe can assist with inquiries.

He appeared caucasian with brown hair, facial hair and was of medium build.

He wore a black jacket and blue jeans.
