Elliot hits back at Fraser over carbon tax claims

RICHMOND MP Justine Elliot has hit back at Nationals' Matt Fraser over claims that the carbon tax will impact on the health of people in Richmond.

Yesterday Mr Fraser met with Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous Health & Regional Health Services Andrew Laming at Tweed Hospital.

Mr Fraser said health services in the area were "at risk" due to the carbon tax and that repealing the tax would release pressure from health services so they can "cater for the needs of the people in the Richmond electorate."

"National Party candidate Matthew Fraser's comments have drawn attention to the $3 billion in cuts to health by Tweed State MP Geoff Provest and his Government," Mrs Elliot responded.

"The fact is the biggest threat to our hospitals is that the NSW State Government is cutting $3 billion from health.

"In contrast, the Federal Labor Government is increasing funding for health in NSW by 23% over the next four years, going from $4.8 billion in 2012-2013 to $5.9 billion in 2015-16.

"That is an extra $1.1 billion."

Mrs Elliot said Mr Fraser had "already highlighted that Geoff Provest has failed to deliver more police and failed to deliver funding for local State roads."

"Now he is highlighting Geoff Provest's failure to deliver in health," she said.

"It seems the only issue that Matthew Fraser and Geoff Provest agree on is their continued support for the expansion of harmful coal seam gas mining on the North Coast."
