Gunman charged after dramatic siege at Redbank Plains

UPDATE, 4PM: A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following a five-hour long siege at Redbank Plains.

Police and heavily armed members of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) converged on a unit block at the corner Keidges Rd and Lillian St about 5am after reports of a disturbance.

The gunman surrendered about 10am and was taken into custody.

The man has been charged with possession of a weapon while under the influence of drugs or liquor (replica handgun), fail to dispose of a syringe and a bail offence.

He will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.

A GUNMAN has surrendered after a siege which saw heavily armed special emergency response team members converge on Redbank Plains.

Officers were called to a Keidges Road unit complex around 5am after reports of a disturbance where a man allegedly made threats with a replica hand gun.

An emergency situation was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act at 8.05am.

Special Emergency Response Team members converged on the area.

Police negotiators were seen to be talking to a man who was reportedly on his own in a unit complex.

Neighbours reported on social media there had been a history of disturbances at the complex.

Police said the matter was resolved without further incident at 10am.

A 31-year-old man was voluntarily taken into custody and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

9AM: Police declare emergency at Redbank Plains

POLICE have declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act at Redbank Plains this morning.

The emergency situation was declared at 8.05am after police attended an address on Keidges Road in relation to a disturbance at a unit complex.

Police are asking people to avoid Keidges Road, Redbank Plains Road, Bruce Street and West Street.

There is no further information available at this time.
