Emmerson attacks Campbell Newman, Tony Abbott

THE man who sang his own version of the classic Skyhooks' hit Horror Movie has hit out at Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, as "birds of a feather".

Federal Trade Minister Craig Emerson made the latest in a string of attacks on the Coalition on Monday.

He said the public could expect public service job cuts at a Federal level, similar to that in Queensland, if the Coalition was elected at the next Federal poll.

Mr Emerson said Mr Abbott and Mr Newman were "birds of a feather", and the only way the conservative parties could reach a budget surplus was to cut jobs.

But he denied the Labor Government's surplus was in any danger, after Deloitte Access Economics predicted a $4.2 billion deficit, rather than the government's estimated $1.1 billion surplus.
