Charity fishing comp on at weekend
AUSTRALIA'S only annual charity fishing competition for the whole family is set to make a splash this weekend.
Now in its 26th year, the annual Lions Greenback Tailor Fishing Competition at Cabarita Beach, is set to test the fishing ability of all who take part.
All proceeds go to Cabarita Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, and the Volunteer Rescue Association. Lions Greenback Committee chairman Bevan Wise said these charity events were crucial for the community.
“It's the only way that rescue organisations and surf clubs can make money to help the community,” Mr Wise said.
Although the fishing event will be up against Wintersun, Mr Wise is sure there will be a good turnout.
“Last year on the Sunday while Wintersun was on, it was absolutely crowded here,” Mr Wise said.
“I have blokes who drop their mums off at Wintersun, and then come here to the fishing.”
Sunday will also include a fish auction for all of the fish donated by the competitors, live music and activities for children.
There will also be raffles and a fireworks display from 6.30pm.
