Explosion in Inglewood forest leaves man in intensive care

UPDATE: GOONDIWINDI CIB investigations are continuing into a mining detonator explosion early on Saturday morning.

A man, 41, from Bethania, was airlifted from Inglewood Hospital to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

It is understood the man was seriously injured after the device detonated in the state forest off Bybera Rd, about 40km from Inglewood, at 12.45am.

Two other males, aged 16 and 45, also from Bethania, were camping in the forest but were uninjured in the incident.

Police secured the site.

SATURDAY: A MAN, 41, is in a Brisbane intensive care unit following an explosion in a forest between Inglewood and Millmerran last night.

Emergency services were called to the area with reports of an explosion about 30km north of Inglewood.

Initial information suggests three men, aged 16, 41 and 45, were camping in a State forest off Bybera Rd when what is believed to have been a mining detonator exploded, injuring the 41-year-old man, about 12.45am.

The man was taken by ambulance to Inglewood Hospital with serious leg injuries before he was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

The three were from Bethania, Logan City.

Explosive technicians on Saturday returned to the scene and are investigating the cause of the explosion.

Goondiwindi Criminal Investigation Branch officers remain at the scene investigating.

Police inquiries are continuing.

Police media said the incident was not believed to be linked to an incident at West Ipswich on Friday.
