Model dreams for FTV hopeful and mum
INSPIRED by her love for her three-year-old son, Elle Sorensen will walk down the catwalk tomorrow night following her dream of becoming a model.
The 21-year-old from North Mackay was contacted on Tuesday afternoon and told about the latest model search in Mackay - the Fashion TV Diamond Model Awards.
The inaugural FTV Diamond Model Awards is a model search with the backing of the leading international fashion brand FTV.
Ms Sorensen said she was a fan of the fashion channel and with such a high-profile sponsor she hoped the search would make her dreams come true.
“I'm hoping by participating in the competition it can further my career in modelling,” Ms Sorensen said.
It was her son, Lazarus Standley, who motivated her to take part in modelling competitions.
“I've been in modelling competitions in the past but I only started after my son was born. I want to be able to show him you can achieve something if you try and you can go somewhere,” she said.
Heat one of a three-stanza competition will be staged at Doors Niteclub tomorrow night. Ms Sorensen will compete against 11 other women vying for the chance to move onto the Mackay final and maybe the national final.
With four evening dresses to choose from Ms Sorensen said Lazarus would be on hand to give advice.
“I think of him as my lucky charm and he went shopping with me in Brisbane and helped choose the dresses based on colours he liked,” Ms Sorensen said.
She does her own make-up, hair and spray tan, and said she would be ready for the competition.
“I'll continue to go to the gym every day, although there are only a couple of days left, and practise 'walking' which my son also enjoys doing,” she said.
Chief executive officer of FTV for the Oceania region, Aaron O'Donnell, said the competition was an opportunity for aspiring models.
“Every day we have seen another model competition with the same format. We are not just looking for runway models but are looking for the personality that can hold an audience's attention and someone who appeals to them on more than simply an aesthetic level,” he said.
Broadcasting in 202 countries to more than 300 million households, FTV has the potential to catapult the winner of the FTV Diamond Model Awards into the most revered fashion circles around the globe.
