Extra coins for pensioners' pockets

THE rising costs of everyday living will be eased for 28,000 pensioners in Richmond, with local MP Justine Elliot announcing an increase in pension payments.

Pension recipients will receive an extra $13.20 a fortnight for singles on the maximum rate and $19.80 a fortnight for couples on the maximum rate, increasing total fortnightly payments to $739.30 for singles and $1099.40 for couples.

Ms Elliot said the Government's pension reforms had already made a huge difference for local pensioners and she was proud to be part of the current increase, which was

“the most significant reform to the pension system in its 100-year history”.

Local pensioners will start to benefit from the increased pensions rates on their first payment date after March 20.
