Bashing left man needing facial reconstruction
A 62-year-old former Yamba man told Grafton Local Court two young men beat him so badly he needed to have his face reconstructed during a hearing yesterday.
Luke David Bourke and Justin James Grivins faced the court after pleading not guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm following an incident at Yamba Golf Club on June 20 last year.
Edward John Preston said he left the golf club on that night when the accused accosted and beat him.
Later, as he walked home, he said he was attacked again, sustaining a broken left cheek, eye socket and jaw.
Defence solicitors Neil Johnson, for Grivins and Mark Spagnolo, for Bourke, said their clients had been provoked by the victim, but did not participate in the attack on him.
The case has been adjourned to July 17.
